Week #5 (Part 2) Critical Analysis [Riona S. Roy]

Critical Appreciation of my 4th post about week 4

Features to cover :

1 Word by word
2 Spelling and grammar/ No slang
3 Does your writing convey your ideas effectively? (Yes or No) Describe how and why?
4 Gestalt/Wholeness : how well does the title and content both visually and textually compliment each other?

BAND BAAJA BANQUET!

The title of the post is very catchy and colourful but as Chris ma'am said it comes off as a little contrast to the way the content is written. The title may seem informal and personalized but the write up is put together in a very formal manner.
Therefore it disturbs the balance of the post in whole. Even though the language and grammar is correct without any spelling mistakes, the writing seems to be a little restricted and not in a certain flow. The post does capture the ideas of the title, It conveys my ideas effectively as all the main points are covered and as a whole the post is complete and apt. The words are pretty much to the point. Overall the blog is pretty factual too. The colour scheme of the blog and the posts are pleasing to the eyes. Also the blog post is pictorial and not just textual which evokes the interest of the reader too.

Week #5 (Part 1) [Riona S. Roy]

A power packed weekend with Pearl Utsav 2015 and loads of fun led to the beginning of the new week ahead. Week 5!

After fixating on the display in banquet hall ideas, I further started exploring my opportunity area and design solutions. With the help of feedback and inputs from Prachi ma’am I got into the depth of my idea.  I started with working on my critical design parameters. Need identification, costing, data analysis, materials usage, customer target ratio etc.

I then created a Pinterest inspiration board, through which I branched out various display ideas and put it all together. Then I compared all my ideas via critical design parameters and designed final ones. I sketched, clicked and explored.

On Tuesday morning our group presented and our presentation mostly got positive reviews. Prachi ma’am pointed out our improvising areas in the feedback. She liked the idea of all the group members connecting their themes with keeping their individual essence.

Now I am looking forward to proceed with my design process.

Week #5 Binding [Arushi Nayar]

This week started with a presentation where we showed our teacher as to how we will make our design solution in a tangible form.
After reffering to my teacher I have decided to make origami's out of the paper strip and work with weaving. This way they can add these products as one of the merchandise .

Week #4 (Part 3) [Arushi Nayar]

Not much could be done by the end of the week because we were busy with Pearl Utsav where I was participating in the dance and also involved with the promotional society.

Week #4 (Part 2) [Arushi Nayar]

As we know indicolour is a printing press so they have a lot of waste paper  which causes a lot a chaos in the factory.
Also it uses a lot of walking space because of which the workers have to work in small spaces.
All the paper is just going waste. Hence as design students we can devise a solution which can benifit the printing press .
This week we also presented our problem area in front of the whole class. We got a positive response from our teacher . She just said that we need to structure our research.

Week #4 (Part 1) Collecting [Arushi Nayar]

This week we concentrated on the problem area. As stated in the last post there were a number of problem areas in indicolour prints.
1. The area is too shady
2. Display
3. Lack of promotion
4. Waste management
The area I decided to work on is waste management.

Week #5 (Part 2) [Ayush Tandon]

Today, we gave a presentation before the final display of our outcome with the following guidelines:
1. Need identification 2. Critical design parameters 3. Concept ideas (multiple) 4. Selection / rejection of ideas (why certain idea/ concept works better than the other- evaluation against critical design parameters) 5. Final selected concept
The problem I am working on is that of promotion. The firm is just a year old and therefore needs to promote itself for recognition. Also there aren’t many promotional activities in the firm. The Design Parameters I chose were Help in promotion of the Firm and its products. Minimal Cost ( it can print their own brochures and posters as it is a printing press ) My Final selected concepts are multiple brochures and Posters..

Week #5 (Part 1) [Ayush Tandon]

Critical Appreciation: Criteria: -
1. Word by word 2. Spelling and Grammar/ No Slang 3. Does your writing convey your ideas effectively? (Yes or No) Describe how and why?
4. Gestalt/ Wholeness: how well does the title and content both visually and textually compliment each other?
I am critiquing the post of week 3…
My blog post is easy to understand. I haven’t used many technical terms. It is able to communicate all my research work. The language used is simple. There are no grammatical errors and I haven’t used any slangs. My post lacks of visual content.

Week #4 [Ayush Tandon]

This week I went to Kanpur for Holi i wasn’t able to attend college for 3 days while my group mates gave the presentation. After returning from Kanpur , I went through all information we had collected about Indicolour Prints in our previous weeks and the problem I found was lack of promotional activities. The firm is only a year old and is expected to have less promotional activities. It needs to be promoted as it is located in an industrial area and not many people are aware of the firm’s existence. By the end of the week I had thought of a design solution which was brochures and posters and started working on it.

Week #5 (Part 2) The Pivotal: Critiquing! [Kanupreet Kapani]

Critical Appreciation: Criteria: -

1.   Word by word
2. Spelling and Grammar/ No Slang
3. Does your writing convey your ideas effectively? (Yes or No) Describe how and why?

4. Gestalt/ Wholeness: how well does the title and content both visually and textually compliment each other?

I am critiquing the first part of my Week #4 blog…

My blog post is structured and easy to understand with well-described emotions. Also, there’s good use of words and vocabulary. The study of most parameters in the selected set up is wide and the same is evident in my blog.
My writing conveys my ideas pretty effectively. However, better sentence formation and use of better vocabulary could have made the blog post more interesting for the readers. Also, there’s no use of slangs with correct grammar and spellings. There's also enough visual content along with the text that makes it interactive, interesting and more appealing to look at. As told by our teacher herself, the balance between visual and textual makes people want to read our group's blog! In addition, the color scheme used is bright and readable.

Week #5 (Part 1) The Endgame [Kanupreet Kapani]

Today, we finally got over with a little presentation before the final display of our outcome with the following guidelines:

1. Need identification
2. Critical design parameters
3. Concept ideas (multiple)
4. Selection / rejection of ideas (why certain idea/ concept works better than the other- evaluation against critical design parameters)
5. Final selected concept

I made 4 different Pinterest boards to show 4 different themes that I thought I could work on. The link of the Pinterest board is given below: -

Also, I made a small powerpoint presentation for this one in which I listed my critical design parameters and did an analysis of all different themes that I had thought of on the basis of which I’ve finalized the theme that I’m going to use in my end outcome. Below is my presentation: -

The feedback I got is that I need to work on more designs (explorations) and make at least 3 sketches on all the themes based on which I can finalize my concept. This will give me at least nine concepts or sketches. Further, I can crosscheck as to which design matches the maximum number of design parameters. This way I shall be able to come up with the final design this weekend!

ALSO, all of us as a group can keep in mind the color scheme of their LOGO and work along the same path so that by the end, once all our designs are finalized, we'll have similar color schemed outputs for their brand.

I shall post soon with more explorations and a critical appreciation of one of my blog posts!

Week #5 (Part 3) Winding up the communication component of the module [Nayanika Kapoor]

17th March, 2015

CRITICAL APPRECIATION OF WRITING

  1. Form and Elegance - Check spelling, grammar and appropriateness of expressions used examining the piece word by word (No slang)
  2. Effective Communication - Is the post effective in communicating the original thoughts that you had when you began writing it?a. If yes, which parts of it communicate well and why?b. If no, which parts of it fail to communicate well and why?
  3. Gestalt in a Blog Spot - How does the post seem as a whole? In what ways do the title and content (visual and textual) complement each other?

I am critiquing the first part of my Week #4 blog.. ENCAPSULATION

Earlier I had named the blog "The presentation week". However, it sounded dull in reference to the content. Hence, the change.

Spellings
Grammar
Slang

Yes, I think my post effectively communicates the original thoughts that I had when I began to write. It's effective as it's written in simple language which can be read quickly. There's also enough visual content along with the text which makes it interactive and more appealing to look at.
As told by our teacher herself, the balance between visual and textual makes people want to read our group's blog! I also think that the color scheme matter because of which I haven't used any dull colors but dark and bright which strike the eyes.

Week #5 (Part 2) Conceptualize! [Nayanika Kapoor]

17th March, 2015

The little informal presentation of my "Opportunity Area" - Visual Merchandising with Prachi ma'am just got over.
Below is my presentation:

The feedback I got is that I need to list down Critical Design Parameters and then work on more designs (explorations). I can work on three different concepts which will have three subs. This will give me at least nine concepts. Further, I can cross-check as to which design matches the maximum number of design parameters. This way I shall be able to come up with the final design this weekend!

ALSO, all of us as a group can keep in mind the color scheme of their LOGO and work along the same path so that by the end, once all our designs are finalized, we'll have similar color schemed outputs for their brand.

I shall upload the processes and more explorations soon!

Week #5 (Part 1) The Weekend Gone By [Nayanika Kapoor]

The weekend gone by was the best of college in the past 6-8 months! So much energy, enthusiasm went in Pearl Utsav, 2015..

However, Monday morning, we're back to basic. Tomorrow is our little presentation with the following guidelines:

1. Need identification 2. Critical design parameters 3. Concept ideas (multiple) 4. Selection / rejection of ideas (why certain idea/ concept works better than the other- evaluation against critical design parameters) 5. Final selected concept

I shall  be making a PowerPoint presentation for this one. Let's see how it goes tomorrow!

Week #4 (Part 2) Upping the presentation game [Kanupreet Kapani]

Kanupreet Kapani

Then came the presentation day, we had to present our process of designing and brainstorming related to our respective design solutions. It had to be a professional visual presentation by the groups but with individual input. I made a short film in which I covered all the aspects of my topic and presented the opportunity areas that I found. For this presentation, only Nayanika, Arushi and I were present. We got a feedback that was better than expected.

The feedback ma’am gave to our group:

We had kept in mind our first brief and didn’t lose touch with the 5 aspects that we individually covered. The opportunity area we chose was good. She liked our idea of presenting our process report via book format.  Our overall presentation had positive feedback with few drawbacks such as lack of continuity and structure in our presentation.

Week #4 (Part 2) Key to the Solution !! [Riona S. Roy]

Then came the presentation day, we had to present our process of designing and brainstorming related to our respective design solutions.  It had to be a professional visual presentation by the groups but with individual input. As I was physically absent in this stage, I sent my PowerPoint Presentation to my fellow group members. The presentation emphasised on the problems I came across and the design solution I had finalized for my final project.

So as I chose the problem of promotion, I wanted to design a display of their products like wedding cards and boxes in a banquet hall right next to the firm. This would keep the wedding theme intact and even increase their sales. The people visiting the banquet would notice the display and visit the INDICOLOUR showroom.

The feedback ma’am gave to our group:
We had kept in mind our first brief and didn’t lose touch with the 5 aspects which we individually covered. The opportunity area we chose were good. She liked our idea of presenting our process report via book format.  Our overall presentation had positive feedback with few drawbacks such as lack of continuity and structure in our presentation.

Week #4 (Part 1) Encapsulation [Nayanika Kapoor]

12th March, 2015
Nayanika Kapoor

After a great weekend thanks to Holi, we're back to semi-working!

This week we had to ponder over the Opportunity Areas we chose and think of multiple solutions! I did so, as much as I could in a span of three days!

Tuesday, 10th March, we had a presentation. The guidelines given to us by Prachi Ma'am were:

DETAILS OF TUESDAY PRESENTATION

1. We will have the group wise presentations on Tuesday as scheduled. Each group gets 10-15 min for presenting & discussing.
2. All groups will participate.
3. Students who are unable to join the presentation will contribute with their work to the group. There bit will be presented by other members.
4. The feedback / discussion on what each group is proposing can be recorded and later shared with the absentees.
5. I want professional, formal presentation.
I don't want to only listen with my ears, I want to listen with my eyes.

This is a critical stage of the process and an imp presentation thus. I will be noting marks for individual work. People who are absent will be impacted. But I cannot help as order must be maintained.

The briefing for the presentation was shared in the class. If ant clarification is needed, please feel free to ask.

ROCK IT!

For this presentation, only Kanupreet, Arushi and I were present. We got a feedback that was better than expected.

I made a Prezi while Arushi and Kanupreet showcased their problem/opportunity area through a PPT and a video.. Riona's PPT too was presented by me as she was absent..

Feedback was given by both the peers as well as Prachi Ma'am..

Example

We were told that we spoke well and the fact that we did a good field research was evident! Though I goofed up in between as I mentioned Arushi's topic to be something else while it was something else :P This was pointed out by either Eshant or Devika.. Anyhow, the overall feedback was that our research wasn't "structured". We shall be working on that!

By the end of Tuesday, we also decided upon presenting our Process Documentation in the form of a book. A PROPER BOOK FORMAT..

After Tuesday, Arushi and I didn't attend any classes as we had full day dance practices. The last two days, Thursday and Friday we had practice in Pearl Academy, Noida from 11 am to roughly 7 pm..

Week #4 (Part 1) Band, Baaja, Banquet [Riona S. Roy]

After huddling up with the opportunity areas in the 3rd week, came the 4th week where we had to decide which problem each one of us chose along with its design solution for our presentation. The problem which I chose to proceed with was the firm’s promotion and display of their products. On the field visits in the former week, I had spotted a banquet hall just minutes away from the firm. This was a pretty big banquet hall was usually over booked which meant it was doing good business.

I thought of using the popularity of SK Royal Castle Banquet as a key to increase the promotional activity of INDICOLOUR.  We know that INDICOLOUR was a wedding card and boxes oriented firm, so to promote their products and sales I could design a display in the banquet which is right on the main road. One of the opportunity areas was also location. As the firm is situated pretty inside the industrial area, this promotional display would even help people know about the firm. People who would visit the banquet for an occasion or just booking they can come across the display and visit the firm for cards, packaging and other customized products.
